President at Piston
John is an industry veteran with experience in start-ups, mid-sized and large public companies. Early in his career John was a manager at Accenture’s New York office, focusing on strategy and organizational change in the financial services sector. In 2001, John was part of the founding team of Involve Inc., an “involvement marketing” software platform that was purchased by Kintera in 2003. John became the VP of Client Services at Kintera, which went public 9 months after the acquisition.
In 2008 John became the President of Piston, an agency with offices in San Diego and New York. Piston creates successful connections between brands and customers through a deep understanding of commerce, culture and technology. By connecting commerce, culture and technology, Piston builds and tracks brand relationships that span all media, channels and marketing capabilities.
Working over the course of his career with storied brands including Chase, Nickelodeon, Ray-Ban, State Farm, Cars.com, Oakley, Merrill Lynch, Intuit, Experian, L’Oreal, AARP, Warner Bros, Mitsubishi and others, John has significant experience in delivering superior online marketing, brand and revenue growth to clients. His specific skill sets include the ability to develop overall strategy, to build teams to implement solutions and to drive operations and processes to deliver efficiency and continual ROI improvement.
A frequent speaker, John has recently presented at conferences including Videonomics, OMMA RTB and San Diego Interactive Day. He is particularly proud of his agency’s outstanding performance at the 2014 American Advertising Federation’s American Advertising Awards where Piston won 2 Gold and 3 Silver awards on behalf of client Cars.com.
John received an undergraduate degree in Finance from Loyola University in Maryland. He also received masters degrees from both the College of Business and the College of Education at The Ohio State University.
